Harley Buildup

This Harley was purchased in Sturgis almost 20 years ago now by my mom. Many years ago now I rode this over 5k miles to Sturgis as well:

Now that the bike is sitting in my garage, it's time to work on it some. First was just give it good cleaning, and see what I needed:

I knew I definitely wanted to add bluetooth capability to the bike (it had the OEM tape deck only). However upon taking apart the front fairing I found out why it vibrated so much. Both front fairing brackets, and speaker supports were broken. So those were ordered, and replaced:

I replaced the OEM radio with a Rockford Fosgate unit, and the OEM speakers with some Kenwoods. I probably would have kept the OEM speakers grilles had they been in better shape.

All the lights got replaced with LED versions. This also meant I had to install a load balancer for the turn signals. I also installed a brake light flasher.

Replaced the seats. Yeah I know the passenger backrest is missing a piece.

I replaced the windshield. It looked really good. It lasted one test ride. The wind noise it dumps right by your ears was very annoying. I put the OEM windshield right back on.

In prepartion for the new wheels (which will have 13" rotors) I picked up some radial mount calipers. To make them not stand out so much on the Harley, it means stripping the original coating:

As well as some polishing:

In prepartion for the Brake upgrades, I converted over to Dot 4 brake fluid. At some point I'll order a new lid (assuming I keep this master cylinder) with the correct label. Until then I removed the Dot 5 label, and just etched Dot 4 on it to make sure there's no accidents:

While not as convenient I wanted to be able to lock the gas tank some how. I settled on the cover lock kit from Harley:

So these grips were on the bike originally for a very long time. Then my mom swapped them out for the Harley ones when they got worn out. I always liked them, so I picked up a new set and put them back on it:

The wheel swap ended up being quite invovled. Especially as I was sent extra parts, but then wasn't sent everything I needed. They do look good though:

Ended up needing custom brake lines. However the bike has tons of stopping power now:

Windsheild attempt number two. It doesn't look as good as the short one, but it's much better while riding. This one is a little taller than the OEM one and has a slight tint to it:

A contribution from my Mom:

Started my suspension upgrades. Swapped out the rear air shocks:

It rides much better now. Definitely looking forward to installing the front:
